Conference Series Obesity 2019 International Conference Keynote Speaker Teddy Rothstein photo
Biography:

Teddy Rothstein practiced every phase of Orthodontic-Orthopedics for thirty-seven years, I moved from Brookyn, NY to Portland, OR in August ’16 where on Dec. 16, 2017 I petitioned the OR Board of Dentisty to sanction OJW for Dental Professionals. I await their decision. I invented the appliance and developed the protocol for providing OJW: Weight-control. I provide OJW in Brooklyn NY. I have treated 200 patients most of whom come from everywhere in the United States simply because I am the sole provider.

Abstract:

Providing Orthodontic Jaw Wiring Weight-Control (OJW®:Weight Control) as Part of A “Healthcare Team”—A New Service in the Dental Professional’s Office

My work demonstrates that Dental Professionals (DPs) are welcomed by the public and as providers of weight control services as part of a Healthcare team that includes dieticians, physicians, psychotherapists and bariatric surgeons. OJW is a fixed intra-oral, bio-mechanical appliance and protocol for controlling compulsive overeating in carefully selected patients who are obese/heading toward obesity, that help them start regaining control over compulsive eating habits with potentially grave health consequences. Patients are wired into the physiologic rest position thereby limiting the extent they can open their jaw. Permission to begin a liquid diet is obtained from their physician. The clarity of speech is unaffected.
Seemingly extreme, after seventeen years providing OJW, it is arguably rather a benign non-invasive, safe and effective method, when using my protocol. Under my protocol, the DP is responsible for maintaining the health of the TMJ, Dentition and Gingiva. The PATIENT is responsible for losing weight by dint of their passionate dedication and adherence to a long-term, low-calorie, liquid diet authorized by their physician or proxy (psychotherapist) with guidance from dietitians and nutritionists.

Today I will enumerate  the myriad consequences of obesity, and the DPs function as a member of a Healthcare team. I will describe the appliance and how-why it works. Then demonstrate how to wire the jaws and tell you about the position the jaw is wired into. I will outline the scope of the service. I will address safety and effectiveness by referencing to a questionnaire I mounted in 2009. Documents will include the Informed Consent, Poor candidates; how to address problems, and a list of the ten most important elements of the OJW Service.

Abstract:

Abstract

Statement of the Problem: Obesity becomes pandemic worldwide, and an enormous burden for our society, healthily and economically. Lots of progress has been made but its management remains unsatisfied. Stress increases cortisol secretion, and thus plays a critical role in its pathogenesis. Reducing stress may be a key point for obesity management. Positive attitude promotes health and reduces stress, therefore, might be very important in managing obesity. Studies in this pipeline are very limited.

Methodology & Theoretical Orientation: In this study, I would adapt positive attitude practice in managing obesity. Positive attitude practice includes confidence, gratitude, adaptation, love, generosity, forgiveness, courage, compassion, health, connection, and meaningfulness. Stress will be evaluated with urine cortisol level and questionnaire. Groups and comparisons will be performed with/without, before/after, sub-layers of positive attitude practice with SAS.

Expected Findings: Positive attitude facilitates weight loss through promoting health and reducing stress, with significant changes for all 11 practice points, even with different other interventions. Different levels of changes may present, as every individual is unique and personalized medicine and preference should be adapted.

Conclusion & Significance: Positive attitude facilitate obesity management, through promoting health and reducing stress. It will open a unique door for weight loss intervention. Different positive attitude shall be adapted for different individuals for personalized medicine and precision medicine.

Abstract:

Abstract

Obesity is the major nutritional problem in India. Junk food, sedentary lifestyle , alcohol are majorly responsible for  self destruction, making one in every fifth Indian male and female either  overweight or obese. India is on 3rd number in obesity after US and China. Keeping this in view Multigrain nutritious health  mixture was developed  from roasted seeds of pumpkin, jackfruit seed, mango kernel seed flour, glucose powder , brown sugar  and cereal grain like, corn, Bengal gram, peanut, Rice, Pulses etc. Multigrain mixture were evaluated for their physico-chemical, microbial and sensory properties. Results showed that various nutrients like protein 5.35(% by weight), carbohydrate 80.25 (%by weight),Dietary fibres 4.67(% by weight), calcium 73.25(mg/100), Iron 2.94(mg/100g) and energy was found to be 404.32Kcal. In microbiological analysis different parameters like TPC, Coliform count, E. coli,Salmonella sp., S.aureus, Yeast & Mold Count were tested. In which E. coli, S.aureus, Salmonella sp. were not found .Multigrain mixture was free from aflatoxins. All the heavy metals were under permissible ,only zinc and tin were found in very less amount. The study revealed that such coarse cereals and seeds of fruits and vegetables which are less consumed by the people, can be used to prepare such type of multigrain mixture which is very high in nutritional value. The product was also subjected to shelf-life analysis for  one and a half month for various parameter like sensory value, free fatty acid, peroxide value, water activity .Since the multigrain mixture has been made without frying, by roasted and puffed cereals, seed etc. it may be better alternative than the snacks like Bhujiya, Namkeen etc. which are generally fried in oil, as mixture made by us does not use the frying in oil, which is benifical for health of obese persons, as well as cost effective, it also has the longer shelf-life at room temperature which make them safe and suitable for consumption.
